Avi's First Posted Fic

So here's the fic. You have been forewarned. I hope you enjoy my...interesting writing style. Peruse at your own will.

So this is why you have avoided my attentions.

Avi spun around and hissed, Quiet! She grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the sight she was unfortunately viewing, of Aragorn and Arwen together, leading him to a more secluded grove of trees, a place she knew Aragorn knew nothing of. She then gave him her full attention. Boromir, how much did you see? she asked softly.

Enough to know where your affections lie, replied Boromir. He averted his eyes, and asked, Does he know?

No, sighed Avi. We have known each other since childhood, and have always told each other everythingexcept this. How could I tell him, when he loves her so? I have loved him from afar for most of my life, avoiding all other loves to concentrate on him, despite the fact that I know I can never have him.

But whats worse her voice caught, and she took a deep breath before continuing, Whats worse is that she feels nothing like that towards him. She finds his attentions amusing, and invites them, knowing that shell never love him. Why should I waste my affections on a mortal man? she said to me when I confronted her on it. She toys with himand with me, since she figured my feelings out when I confronted herand he is so smitten by her that he would not believe me if I tried to tell him the truth.

So here I remain, a prisoner of my own emotions. My heart belongs to him, even though he knows not of my love. It has always been like this, and will be until he learns the truth from herand he will probably fall on his own sword when he does, so heartbroken will he be. Avi leaned against a tree, her eyes downcast. Now you know. You, and four others in all of Middle Earth. What think you of me now?

No lessand infinitely more, Boromir said, startling Avi. She looked up at him, and saw his sharp eyes gazing at her. You have suffered much because of this, and needlessly, in my opinion. If truth be told, several others have pursued you, offering you a life you deserved far more than this life of pain. Now that I know why, I can begin to understand, but know that I do believe that you, of all people, deserve much better.

It is beyond my control, Avi said helplessly. My love is takenmy heart is not my own!

Love is endless, said Boromir, moving closer to her and lightly touching her face and long, red hair. There is no limit to how much you can love, or how many. I am not asking you to give up on him. He is your friend, and that is a bond easily as strong as love, for it has love in it. All I ask is that you at least acknowledge the love others have for youand, perhaps, give that love a chance to grow, and one day meet up with yours, as it were.

Boromir moved his hand to hers, and into her open palm, he placed a ring. Avi looked at it, then at him with eyes full of wonder. This is the ring worn by the heirs of the Steward of Gondor. I do not ask you to wear it just yet, but to at least keep it. Let it be a reminder of the love another for you. He closed her hand around it, and held the hand in both of his.

This may seem sudden, seeing as this is only the second time we have met, Boromir explained, But I have known, since our first meeting so many years ago, when you were traveling as a Ranger in Minas Tirith, that I have loved you. My feelings have not changed, just as yours have not changed for him. I want what is best for you, and I believe that I could make you happy, maybe even more happy than he could make you.

And I am beginning to believe that as well, replied Avi. I will consider this. I warn you, however, a decision may take some time.

I will wait as long as you deem worthy, Lady Avi, so long as you are even considering it, Boromir said. Then, surprising both of them by his forwardness, he leaned in and kissed her.

It had literally been years since her last kiss, and it had felt nothing like this. She had not felt the feeling, the passion, the love she felt in this kiss. She felt herself responding involuntarily to it, and began to seriously consider his proposal. If she could feel the love he had for her as strongly as the love she felt for Aragorn

Boromir slowly pulled away, and looked at her with something akin to awe. May I escort you to your home, my lady? he asked breathlessly.

Of course, worthy Boromir, Avi replied. She put his ring in one of her pockets and allowed him to lead her by hand out of the grove and into Rivendell proper. Luckily, no one was about at such a late hour, and the looks of exultation and pensiveness on Boromir and Avis faces respectively remained their own. At her doorway, he kissed her hand lightly, and she watched as he walked towards where he was staying whilst in Rivendell. She stood there long after he left her sight, simply thinking.
